    Plaquenil toxicity after stopping

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Patients in earlier stages of hydroxychloroquine retinal toxicity usually do not experience symptoms, though the rare patient may note a paracentral scotoma that causes trouble with reading as well as diminished color vision. However, most patients usually notice symptoms only after scotomas have become severe. I'm on Plaquenil, and after the first week's GI upset, I have had no problems with it. Did you take yourself off Plaquenil, or did your doctor tell you to go off it? And as far as the vision issue goes, toxicity causing vision loss is very rare if you are on the right dose for your height and if you get regular eye exams. Applies to hydroxychloroquine oral tablet. Along with its needed effects, hydroxychloroquine the active ingredient contained in Plaquenil may cause some.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

  3. I had to stop Plaquenil after a few days. I couldn't walk, was dizzy, my speech was slurred, blurry vision, etc. but, I'm the one who usually gets side effects. I know people who Plaquenil has worked wonders. The side effects cleared up within a week. I also have Sjorgens, and my eyes were dryer on Plaquenil, but the blurry vision was the worst.

Jan 11, 2012 Plaquenil isn a antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory affect. I have done a lot of research on this drug and haven't run into anybody who has complained of the withdrawal effect. Over the years on this site we have had quite a few people post that they didn't think that the plaquenil was working so they would stop taking it. I am interested to see if anyone here has gotten a rash from Plaquenil after being on it for several months. I have been getting these horrible rashes and they are not related to sun exposure. I am starting to wonder if they are related to Plaquenil. My doctor now wants me to start on Chloroquine instead of plaquenil. The toxicity resulting from the intake of Plaquenil is due to its affinity for melanin -containing structures in the body. With prolonged usage, metabolites in the drug accumulate in the retina. The drug remains in these parts even if the patients stopped taking the drugs.
