    Aug 29, 2014 Plaquenil, hydroxychloroquine HCQ, is an anti-malarial medication that has been proven to be useful in the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis RA, systemic lupus erythematosus SLE and other inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. I do remember it took about 8 weeks before I noticed any difference at all. At three months I saw a big difference, and after six months, I am see a lot of difference. Before taking Plaquenil, I could barely walk. Everyone is different, so if a med is making you feel worse, I think you should let your doctor know and consider trying something else. I’ve been taking Plaquenil for 6 months now & it’s been working well for me. It took a good 2 full months to start working. I’m not having as much pain & swelling in my fingers, wrist & elbows. I still get flare ups, but nowhere near as bad as I did before taking Plaquenil.

    It helped my rash but not my other symptoms. It wasn’t worth continuing it for me because of the awful side effects I got from Plaquenil.     Plaquenil as lyme treatment Anti-Inflammatories. If however you have lyme bad enough to be on months of plaquenil, isn't it almost better to be getting the treatment with some bad dreams, than having no bad dreams but continuing with lyme disease? Unless of couse you can switch to another that'll work as well clarythromicin has worked well.
